This week saw Gary in Barbados where he was asked to present Spin Bowling to the West Indies Cricket Board. It was a great opportunity to discuss and share views with another cricketing nation. There was lots of fun with the practical spin bowling drills and activities mixed with some great debates on spin bowling and some of the challenges we face as coaches when coaching spin. It was also a great experience to talk cricket with some iconic West Indies players such as Courtney Walsh, Clive Lloyd and Joel Garner.
Coach education is very important and we often see spin bowling as quite a daunting subject. Delivering spin bowling knowledge and sharing experiences, as well as getting in the nets and implementing our skills, is key to helping coaches develop a better understanding and confidence when coaching young spin bowlers.
