On 18th October I was invited by David Wilson of Longridge Cricket Club to conduct a 2 hour spin bowling coaching session with the clubs juniors. It gave the lads, aged between 12 and 17, an opportunity to try their hand at spin bowling. Some of them already bowled spin but it gave the others a chance to have a go.
The session involved a masterclass on the basic bowling action, including some key fundamental points such as alignment. The lads then paired off and applied their new skills by bowling softer red and white cricket balls at each other. There was definitely some naturally talented young spin bowlers on display!
The rest of the session was nets where the lads were able to bowl and bat against each other. It’s very rewarding for myself to watch lads develop and improve from applying new skills they have learned. It does show that within a small time frame you can make an immediate impact.
The session ended with a mini questions and answers which gave us time to reflect on and consolidate some of the key areas from the day. I’m already looking forward to the next time where we can build on the base foundations. Thank you to Longridge CC for making me welcome, it was a real pleasure to coach a great set of lads. I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.
